"CHAPTER 6: Fitness & Nutrition." Mayo Clinic Fitness For Everybody (2005): 218-243. Consumer Health Complete - EBSCOhost. Web. 23 Feb. 2014.
Chapter 6 “Fitness & Nutrition” of Mayo Clinic Fitness For Everybody (2005) offers in-depth information on fitness and nutrition including the basic elements of food, the energy we obtain from food, energy expenditure, calculating your BMR, and simple diet guidelines for good health. This source really simplifies the macronutrients carbohydrates, fats, and proteins stating that “energy comes from what you eat and drink” and then explains how our body converts food into fuel for the body (p. 218-222). From prior knowledge and further internet research I know that I can trust this source because it is a product of the Mayo Clinic, a well-respected and far-reaching organization of doctors and medical professionals dedicated to helping people. This source is full of information on many fitness/nutrition topics, hence the title “Fitness & Nutrition.” It’s explanation of the basic elements of food, how the body uses food for energy and how to apply that information to your fitness goals will help me answer my question, “How does nutrition affect overall health?” |
Nelson, R. M. (2013). The Next Evolution. Physical Therapy, 93(10), 1415-1425. doi:10.2522/ptj.2013.mcmillan.lecture
In Dr. Roger Nelson’s article “Next Evolution” (2013), he assessed the future of the physical therapy profession as result of the changing healthcare industry. He described how physical therapists and Department of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs “must adapt quickly to match the logarithmic increase in the rate of health care evolution” (p. 1424). He outlined the article with three essential questions: what is or is expected to change, how can the profession adapt, and what must change in the education of DPT students and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Including his time on the APTA Board of Directors, Dr. Nelson has many accomplishes in the profession of physical therapy. He has “served the profession as a clinician, educator, researcher, and mentor” for almost 50 years. Nelson has helped physical therapist gain recognition as core members of the health care team. Additionally, he has published two textbooks and made over 180 presentations to various scientific meetings (p. 1415). In conclusion, I can use this article for my project because of its credibility and its thorough discussion of the future of physical therapy. I understand that physical therapy is an evolving and growing field. If I am to major in Physical Therapy in college, it will be beneficial to do my project on the prospect for the years to come for the industry. |
